Abstract

Internet in present scenario is known to be an unparallel link between various organizations, governments, universities, business tycoons, bureaucrats, scholars, socialites, casual surfers/chatters, kids and others. It is an information super highway. As every coin have two sides, so does Internet. Though its usefulness is uncountable, the disaster it can bring about too is unimaginable. The objective of this research paper is to bring forward both sides of Cyber Crimes. That is, the hacker side and the authority (Cyber Crime
Investigation Cell) side. The paper will be presenting various statistics relating to authentication, access control, denial of service, cyber frauds that have occurred in Chandigarh (UT), in India and what has been done in such cases according to Cyber Laws as given by DIT (Department of IT, Government of India). This paper will present kinds of crime and criminal, and also what drives them to do so, IT ACT 2000, IT Security strategy that Ministry of IT (India) follows and methods of combating cyber crimes – Firewalls, Biometrics Solutions, Retinal scan, Fingerprint Verification, Vein matching, Digital signatures, SSL, TLS etc.
