INFLUENCE OF ADDITIVES ON GLYCINE CRYSTAL CHARACTERISTICS

Silver Nitrate, Barium nitrate and potassium Nitrate were used as different tailor made additives, in order to define their influence on crystallization of glycine. The solvent evaporation technique at room temperature was employed to grow glycine additive crystals. The additives affect the granulometric characteristics of the crystals such as crystal size distribution and external shape. The incorporation of the additives on the glycine lattice was confirmed by powder X-Ray diffraction studies. Linear optical characteristics, transmittance and absorption using UV-Vis studies confirm that these crystals possess minimum absorption in the entire visible region. The optical band gap of the crystals was determined using Tauc’s plot. The crystals have wide band gap and there is a shift observed due to additives. The present study is quite importance for better understanding on the impact of additives on glycine lattice.
