PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF HANDWRITTEN DEVNAGRI CHARACTERS RECOGNITION THROUGH MACHINE INTELLIGENCE: A REVIEW

Abstract

Handwritten character recognition is one of the most active areas of research. But developing a handwritten Devnagri character recognition system is a big challenge due to high variability of writing styles. Also Devnagri script has some special features like conjunct characters, identifying shirolekha and spine. This affects the recognition rate and many other performance measures in recognition of characters. An Artificial Neural Network can provide a better solution in character recognition. This paper is a novel approach towards recognition of handwritten Devnagri characters and analysis of various suitable performance measures. The character recognition and performance measures analysis can be done by neural network tool box in MATLAB and various softwares from Neurosolutions.
